Bio

Fille d'un industriel iranien et d’une mère allemande, Gitty Darugar est née à Téhéran.
Elle fréquente des écoles à Téhéran, en Suisse, en France, en Angleterre, puis une école d’art dramatique à Berlin. Ensuite, elle est appelée à faire partie de la compagnie berlinoise « Schiller und Schlosspark-Theater ».
On la voit également dans un grand nombre de rôles, dans d’autres théâtres allemands, au cinéma et à la télévision.
Dans les années 80, influencée par un ami de longue date, Sven Nykvist, le directeur de photographie de Ingmar Bergman, elle se met derrière la caméra.
Elle consacre toute son attention au portrait, photographie entre autres les architectes tels que Christian de Portzamparc, Jean Nouvel, Mario Botta, Yves Lion; ces rencontres l'amènent à la photographie d’architecture.

Elle vit et travaille en Suisse et à Paris.


Daughter of a Persian industrialist and of a German mother, Gitty Darugar was born in Teheran.
She attended schools in Teheran, Switzerland, France and England before studying dramatic arts in Berlin. Soon thereafter, she attained a full-time engagement at Berlin’s “Schiller und Schlosspark-Theater” and later acted in other German theaters, on television, and in films.
In the 1980s, under the influence of her long-time friend Sven Nyqvist, the director of photography for Ingmar Bergman, she reversed roles and placed herself on the other side of the lens.
As a photographer, she, at first, dedicated herself to portraiture, including those of architects such as Christian de Portzamparc, Jean Nouvel, Mario Botta, and Yves Lion; these encounters led her into architectural photography.

She lives and works in Switzerland and Paris.

Centre Pompidou

The “Centre de documentation et de recherche du Musée national d’art moderne” in the Centre Pompidou in Paris has acquired two groups of photographs by Gitty Darugar for the collection of the Bibliothèque Kandinsky. One is a series of portraits of architects taken in the 1990s that includes Patrick Berger, Mario Botta, Odile Decq, and Jean Nouvel; a second series is comprised of a visual reportage of Christian de Portzamparc’s project for the French Embassy in Berlin (completed in 2003) and of the interiors and exteriors that Jean Nouvel created for the Musée du Quai Branly in 2008.
